All cards on the table, I’m the worst at keeping my life together when I get home from work. I manage my time from 6:30 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon…. like a BOSS. Then, I get home and something about the couch beckons my booty to sit down and make a home there. I feel like the Rebels blowing up the Death Star when I get up and go to the gym– a complete champion. But, I really want to finish my day strong and get my act together. I’ve worked on a gameplan to help me get it together. So, let’s get it together.
Mental
- Transition. It takes a bit of effort for me stop thinking about work. So, I keep a running list of things I need to do for work. Save it for when you’re back at work and leave it on the list.
- Intention. If I don’t have something to work on, I’m really just going to veg in front of the tv. So, I have to give myself projects or goals to work on– but these are all things I enjoy and nothing that will stress me out.
Emotional
- Compartmentalize. Separate your stress from your down time. Barring an emergency, you probably don’t have to work right now, so just let it go.
- Journal. It’s easier said than done to not think about all of the things that have been stressing you out. Jot down a list of stressful things, if you have to.
Physical
- Supplements. Yeah yeah yeah… you saw this one coming, didn’t you? I sometimes have problems falling asleep, and getting a little extra zinc can really help knock me out. Forewarning: start off with a super low dose, so you don’t wake up with a hangover.
Finish Strong
Now that school is in a rythym and I’m not sick anymore, I can take it up a notch. I’m ready to get my act together and really start being more intentional. If you have any other ways that you finish your day with the next in mind, let me know. I’m always looking for more ways to make good use of my time.
Great ideas for winding down but finishing a long day! I know for me, what helps me mentally calm down is closing my eyes, not with the intention of sleeping, but something about not seeing stuff makes my brain slowly turn down lol
Love it! Sometimes, all you need is a few minutes of not seeing the lists and everything you could be working on to center your focus.
