Quite possibly the worst thing that can happen to my day is when I’m denied my morning coffee. There are few things that can make me more groggy and irritable. But after finally getting over my caffeine addiction (3 1/2 pots of coffee a day– that’s right…. POTS), I want to wake up before I get that first cup in my hands. I’ve been working on getting my head in the game and jolted awake by the time work starts. I have successfully perfected my morning routine… for me. Please bear in mind that I still have those glorious and miraculous two cups of coffee every day. The difference is that it puts the cherry on top, but it isn’t the sole source of my wakefulness.Take what I have and make it your own, so you can wake up when you get up, as well.
Morning Routine
- Splash of cold water on my face: The startle reflex kicks in and it takes the edge off the groggies.
- Eating breakfast: This jolts your metabolism and gets your body going, which makes you naturally wake up, as well.
- Music & Singing: That’s right– I blare the music and sing on my way to work. This wakes me up like nothing else.
- Prayer & Venting: I set myself up for a good day by claiming one. But let’s face it, some days we just know are going to be rough. I pre-vent and get it all out before hand.
- Planner: As soon as I get to work, I open my planner and take a peek at what the day holds. It also keeps me focused on what I actually need to start and what can wait for another day.
