As I try to increase the intensity of my workouts, my hunger has also increased. Giles and I have increased our calories, which has allowed us a lot of freedom in how frequently we can eat. Right now, we’re eating 4 meals, with 3 snacks. Let me share with you my 3 regular snacks, as well as an extra one I keep around for when (not “if”) I get the munchies.
Regular Snacks
Greek Yogurt. I eat the Triple Zero Greek Yogurt, which has 0 grams of sugar (the other two 0’s are fat and artificial sweeteners). Why does this matter? Well, if you have Greek yogurt in your fridge, go look at the back. Now, you have most likely realized that it has a TON of sugar. Too many people assume all Greek Yogurt is a healthy option. Always check the nutrition facts, no matter what eye-grabbing labels they have on the front.
Grilled cheese. That’s right, you read what you read. We use P28 bread, which is a brand having 28 grams of protein in any given product. In this case, I can fit half a slice of bread and one slice of cheese into my daily food. This is the snack that I have as I drive from work to the gym every day. It’s easy to eat in the car, I can meal prep it for the week and… grilled cheese.
In between the two gym times (shut up– also, I am not the most consistent about this), I eat dinner. But as a good fat kid, I’m going to get hungry again after the second time. So, instead of 3 large meals, I have 4 slightly smaller meals. The last one is a teriyaki bowl. We purchase a pre-made teriyaki chicken, but with the magic of the crockpot, you can easily make your own. So essentially, we’ve taken some carbs and protein from one meal and set them aside for later. My dinner has 0 carbs, so it really just serves the purpose of holding me over until after the gym.
Extra Snacks
Since Giles and I are in a caloric deficit, if we have a few extra snacks, we’ll still be burning more than we take in. And let’s face it… I can get the hungers. So my two go-to snacks everyday are
- An apple. The natural sugar in an apple can give you more energy than a cup of coffee. With that being said, I still drink my coffee. But, if you need a boost of energy and a snack, munch on an apple.
- Rice rolls. These are amazing! They are naturally gluten-free, vegan and about 45 calories per roll. They have a nice little crunch to them and are absolutely addicting. My favorite flavor is the coffee (surprise surprise), but Giles just got a ton of new flavors. I’m especially excited about the honey ginger and the green tea.
What are your go-to snacks? Be sure to share your favorites with me, from one fat kid to another. I am always looking for some ideas on food to eat. And you know that I mean it. Happy snacking!
