The fall weather is finally here and it has brought the comfort food and warm beverages that I’ve waited for! This year, I tried my hand at homemade apple cider, instead of store bought. This required a lot more work than I had anticipated, but it did not disappoint.
Prep time 10 mins Cook time 8 hours Total time 8 hours 10 mins
Ingredients
- 5 LBS Apples, Sliced (I used half Jazz apples and half Honeycrisp)
- 3 TSP Pumpkin Pie Spice
- 2 TSP Nutmeg
- 1/2 Cup Honey
- 6 Cinnamon Sticks
- 1 Large Orange, Sliced
- 10 drops Thieves Essential Oil
- 1/4 Cup Cloves
- 8 Cups or Enough Water to cover
Instructions
- Put everything into slow cooker for 4 – 6 hours on high or 8 – 12 on low
- Remove cinnamon sticks and orange slices
- Mash remaining items with potato masher. This can get a little messy, so I had to remove it first– you can also just blend the apples and the fruit portion of the orange slices (not the rind), and then place it back.
- Cook for 1 more hour
- Strain through strainer (or cheese cloth if you blended the apples)
- Serve hot or cold (by adding ice)
